China’s Twitter Clone From Tencent

Twitter Clone Taotao

There are already plenty of Twitter clones in China and so far none of them are popular. On August 13, the most popular free instant messaging application QQ’s provider in China, Tencent Holdings released Taotao in public beta testing.

According to iResearch, Tencent’s Q2 income has achieved more than $100 million dollars, among which there are $14 million from internet advertising. With the enormous users base, it would not be hard for Tencent to promote Taotao and make it successful.

You can publish through different channels:

  • Tencent’s IM application QQ signature
  • Taotao’s website
  • Mobile phone SMS
  • QQ robot

Every message you send each time, there’s a limit of 70 Chinese characters.

So long as you sign in with your QQ account once in Taotao, you would be assigned your own webpage like this: http://www.taotao.com/qq_id

I tried to send messages through both QQ signature as well as on Taotao itself, both were delivered fast. I really like this application! Personally, I like it more than Twitter.

The above image shows the interface you can view what you posted and that of your followers’. I believe it would be another success of Tencent. There are many people who like to talk to strangers over the Internet, don’t you think so?
